Description/achievement of initiative
To support the aim of univeral access to sustainable, affordable, reliable and safe energy for all, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) is co-funding with the EU a a four-year project to increase access to, affordable, reliable, safe and sustainable energy for community services and productive uses for over 400,000 people in remote regions in Kenya, working with local partners and a solar company.
Over the next 2 years, we will also be piloting an innovative approach to designing energy delivery models (EDM) with IIED and partners in SE Asia (Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia) with the aim of ensuring energy services meet end-users needs and are locally appropriate, so that they are successful over the long-term.
In the UK, to support universal energy access and the shift to sustainable, efficient energy systems globally, CAFOD has launched a One Climate, One World campaign asking our government to support an ambitious climate deal at Paris in December 2015 and sustainable energy services for everyone, including priortising this in UK development and climate financing.
Last but definitely not least, with other civil society orgs in the South and North we have launched a coalition called ACCESS with the key aim of supporting CSO participation and dialogue with other stakeholders around SE4All and other national energy discussions, including through Sustainable Energy Access Forums in focus countries.
