Description/achievement of initiative
The EU has been a leading player in SE4ALL since it began, mobilizing €600 million for investments in the initiative. Between 2014 – 2020, €3.5 billion of grants will leverage sustainable energy investments of up to €30 billion in generation, transmission and access, including through ElectriFI, which will boost private sector investments by bridging gaps in project financing.
Implementation methodologies
EU cooperation supports developing countries in their access to sustainable energy. It builds on strong political ownership in partner countries. Policy dialogue has already resulted in seven high level Joint Declarations with African countries on energy cooperation, reinforcing the ties between policy commitments and financial support. Similar agreements, setting solid road maps to energy development, have being prepared with 20 more countries in particular with those that have selected energy as a priority for bilateral cooperation with the EU.
Furthermore, the EU’s Technical Assistance Facility has provided support to improve policy making and technical expertise in developing countries.
