Description/achievement of initiative
Engaging Youth in Sustainable Development is advocating for a major youth policy reform in Latin America. Our goal is that governments deliver concrete policies to achieve sustainable development for and from youth. In Peru, we are working with political parties that will participate in 2016 general elections. Colombia, Argentina and Chile will follow.
Implementation methodologies
We have drafted Youth 2016 - A Commitment with Youth which is inspired in Colombo´s Declaration on Youth. This document includes concrete policies to address sustainable development for and from youth. This document has been already delivered to several presidential candidates and their respective government plan teams. In January, political parties will make a public commitment at the National Parliament to include policies that follow the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and empower youth as partners to achieve them. Our initiative is endorsed by UN Millennium Campaign, World We Want 2015, and Concordia Summit.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
We are in coordination with several youth lead organization and civil society organizations in Argentina, Colombia and Chile. After our first "youth takeover" of the Peru's national congress, we are coordinating the replication of our initiative in Argentina, Colombia and Chile.
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
This initiative is governed by an organizing committee that is currently composed of co-sponsors (congressmen and political parties participating in Peru's 2016 general election) and civil society organizations (chaired by Somos el Presente).
