The Inter-Parliamentary Union is mobilizing support for the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health within the world parliamentary community
Description/achievement of initiative

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is mobilizing support for the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health within the world parliamentary community. It has launched a global parliamentary dialogue that will culminate in April 2012 with a resolution recommending parliamentary action in support of women's and children's health. IPU's support for the Global Strategy aims at enhancing access to and accountability for improved health services for women and children.

Implementation methodologies

The resolution will contain a catalogue of measures that parliaments can take to improve women's and children's health significantly by, for example, allocating adequate funding, revising national health policies and overseeing improved service delivery. The IPU is also providing targeted assistance to strengthen parliament's legislative and oversight functions in countries where women and children do not have equitable access to essential health services.
