The Christmas Against Food Waste event plans to help 12,000+ low-income Danes on December 23rd 2016 - and the Christmas Against Food Waste will be a national event all across Denmark.

Implementation methodologies

Danish People's Aid gets every year far more applications for Christmas help than they can help. Therefore Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad), REMA 1000 and the Danish People's Aid entered into a new alliance - Christmas Against Food Waste - to help more low-income families at get a good Christmas. Over 100 volunteers from the Danish People's Aid and Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad) delivered good surplus food from from REMA 1000 stores in 4 major Danish cities to 500 families who otherwise could not get Christmas aid. On December 23rd 2015, 500 low-income families (2,000+ low-income Danes) were helped with free good surplus Christmas food - and food worth of 41.000 EURO was saved from ending in the trash containers!In 2016, the Christmas Against Food Waste will be repeated on December 23rd 2016 all across Denmark. In autumn 2016, and with collaboration of Minister for the Environment and Food of Denmark, Esben Lunde Larsen and the Danish Government, there will be launched a large Charity Dinner Event to raise money for the Christmas Against Food Waste event. Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

In 2016, the Christmas Against Food Waste will be repeated on December 23rd 2016 all across Denmark. In autumn 2016, and with collaboration of Minister for the Environment and Food of Denmark, Esben Lunde Larsen and the Danish Government, there will be launched a large Charity Dinner Event to raise money for the Christmas Against Food Waste event.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

Event Christmas Against Food Waste: In 2015, Danish People's Aid, Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad) and REMA 1000 retail chain have partnered up to distribute good surplus food to 500 low-income families (2,000+ low-income Danes) on December 23rd 2015, to help low-income families with free surplus food - and simultaneously reduce food waste.Good surplus food from REMA 1000 retail chain and a number of other suppliers, was collected - that is, good food and other Christmas goodies that could not be sold after December 25th - and packed in Christmas food aid packages, which also also contained a food gift certificate worth of 200 DKK (27 EUR). It could ensure that each of low-income families could get a bacon or a turkey for the families' own choice.
