A Voice for Sustainable Development
Description/achievement of initiative

Community Development and Empowerment Foundation (Codef) is a non-profit making as well as non-governmental organization operating in Zambia as a company limited by guarantee since its registration on 9th May 2012. Our three organizational objectives are (1) The general provision and facilitation of Community Development and Empowerment services; (2) To provide general media services; and (3) Livelihood development through income generating activities to communities.

Implementation methodologies

In our strategy to Implement the Sustainable Development Goals awareness and sensitization process, Community Development and Empowerment Foundation (Codef), engages its staff and volunteers to go round the rural remote communities sharing the knowledge acquired as well as learning from the people we serve.Codef target audience focuses on especially the poor ordinary women, children, the youths, disabled and people living with chronic health complications like Hiv/Aids among others. The reason we target the above section of our communities especially is they are not only vulnerable and marginalized but their views and voices, concerns and comments are not heard and considered by decision makers. Thus by informing and educating them on Sustainable Development Goals, particularly number one, we are empowering them with relevant information to hold both their traditional and civic leaders for thier actions and in the long to end poverty. In conclusion, the meeting we conduct are recorded and edited into Radio programs which are aired on our development oriented partner community based Radio station called Mungu Fm Radio.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Our organization needs a lot of capacity building on the Sustainable Development Goals Implementation and especially on technology transfer, for example, Internet use, this can be done by example knowledge staff exchange at local, national, regional and international level. Sending Voulunteers to our organization and vice-versa. Codef project Coordinator and assistant attended the United Nations and Thomson Reuters Foundation training Course on "Sustainable Development in a changing Climate" in Lusaka- Zambia from 3rd to 7th August 2015. The above said two members of staff further attended and benefited from the knowledge on Sustainable Development goals from training sessions conducted at Mungu Fm Radio organized by Ms Annedore Smith from Senior Expertern Service (SES) a German non-profit making corporation based in Bonn. But since knowledge is vast we still need more to be relevant and useful not ony to our organization but Agenda 2030

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The Project Coordinator is in charge of executing this project working with other stakeholders at local, national, regional and international level. This will include full and part-time staff as well as countless volunteers. Moreover we need the involvement of different partners from other regions as above to coordinate this SDGs process from a bottom up approach.
