Sustainable Territorial Development - A Collective Initiative for Sustainable Development
Description/achievement of initiative

AFE and its members are piloting a collective initiative that aims to articulate the know-how of fourteen (14) corporate and family foundations, in the region of Antioquia. The collective project will strengthen the collective capacity of foundations to work in, and strengthen critical institutional capacities in remote regions of Colombia, with an emphasis on those that have been affected by conflict and will therefore be a priority in the context of post conflict.

Implementation methodologies

The initiative focuses on understanding local priorities in selected sub-regions, and designing vcollective workplans that respond to local priorities in alignment with the know-how and programs led by the foundations that are part of the effort. The initial steps in the process involved selecting subregions for the execution of the project, and understanding the methodologies that different foundations use to understand local priorities. The second step involves filed work to implement these methodologies, and identify SDGs and priority areas for interventions. Field work will be guided by the foundations that are most active in each of the territories that were prioritized. After this stage, a detailed workplan will be designed, including a timeframe and budget for the execution of selected projects.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The initiative has been initially articulated and motivated by AFE, the national association of family and corporate foundations. As part of the process, a governance mechanisms is being developed, so that the collective project can be monitored by the collective of Antioquia (14 foundations) and simultaneously executed in multiple sub-regions at once.
