Description/achievement of initiative
The Environmental Research Unit of the Unified Environmental Information System - SUIA, has designed the Environmental Knowledge Repository – RCA; RCA is conceived as a portal containing technological tools like: System Environmental Research Articles (SAIA), the Virtual Library, the application of the National Guidelines for Strategic Environmental Research, the Electronic Newsletter and the Virtual Classroom, which facilitate free access, storage, exchange, dissemination and search for information on environmental research carried out in Ecuador, fast, simple and free.
Implementation methodologies
For socializing tools of the RCA in Universities, Polytechnics and Public Research Institutes, are planned initial approaches through phone calls and emails, to realize socialization meetings with areas that perform research activities and with the faculties and careers relevant to environmental issues, the same that have been identified in the Base Line environmental Research Unit handles; after we will visit each of the IES who will participate in the process at national level, based on the schedule of socialization.
To present the RCA both the IES and the IPIs, it takes an hour and a half to socialize the five technological tools available on the SUIA website, specific activities are in socialization program; for the execution of this task it requires the following issues:
As regards infrastructure, a meeting room equipped with a laptop, projector and Internet access required.
In the case of the participants, they should be delegated by the highest authority of each institution, for which the formalization of the participants is required, which should be suitable and have access to information related to environmental research
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
The Environmental Research Unit of the Unified Environmental Information System - SUIA, designed the Repository Environmental Knowledge - RCA, within the framework of the implementation of the National Strategic Guidelines for Environmental Research - LENIA ( MAE, 2013 ) , specifically to run the LENIA 4 : " Strengthening and expanding mechanisms of information, communication and dissemination of environmental research , encouraging more social actors recognize the needs , results and applications of scientific and technical knowledge generated " ; the RCA seeks to manage and transfer the environmental and sustainability knowledge generated in the country and aims to be an interactive space for users interested in environmental research
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
This initiative will be coordinated by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador through the Environmental Research Unit with the support of the Environmental University Network, Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property – IEPI, Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation – SENESCYT.
The objective of the project is to implement technological tools of the Environmental Knowledge Repository and training on its use in Institutions of Higher Education and Public Research Institutes at national level.
