SheTrades
Description/achievement of initiative

On September 2015 the International Trade Centre launched the SheTrades initiative. Developed through extensive consultations with a diverse group of stakeholders, SheTrades is a wide-ranging initiative to empower women economically through greater integration in global trade and investment, with a goal to connect one million women to markets by 2020. SheTrades is a global programme of work around seven key actions, supported by a digital web and mobile platform. The actions provide a framework for the private sector, governments, international organisations, civil society and others to implement specific, measurable commitments that support women’s economic participation through trade.

Implementation methodologies

- Call to Action - A call that sets out a framework for companies, governments, civil society organisations, and any other stakeholder in development, to make specific, measurable pledges that contribute to the goal of integrating women more fully into the global economy. - SheTrades - the digital platform is an innovative channel that contributes to ensuring scale, reach and measurability of impact through a unique matchmaking feature that ensures women entrepreneurs are more visible to buyers, and in particular to companies with supplier diversity goals. It has a functionality that provides stakeholders with useful tools and content, and a tracking and benchmarking system towards the operationalisation of decisive partnerships.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Capacity- building opportunities for women entrepreneurs, buyers and trade and investment support institutions are available for SheTrades platform members. Information related with E-learning courses, technical webinars, and manuals on how to increase the capacity of women business to connect with international markets, are offered through the web and mobile app.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The coordination of this initiative is at the center of the Women and Trade Programme at the International Trade Centre.
