Description/achievement of initiative
“Sustaining You” (SY) is a creative media initiative to promote transparency and accountability of government efforts on the SDGs and mass consciousness of the people. Without people, the SDGs cannot be actualized and in doing this, it behooves development practitioners to support the Nigerian populace to understand the concepts of the SDGs and demand accountability from their governments, the enforcements of all international treaties and instruments fostering development. This media programme is committed to ensuring that its interventions contribute to mass consciousness, and helping government towards the attainment of the SDGs.
Implementation methodologies
The media discussion series “Sustaining You” holds weekly, and feature discussions from resource persons, community members in a question and answer format, and other creative medium of dissemination of knowledge such as interview segment, radio drama, and commentary and VoxPop aka street parliament.
Radio appearances each month will host the 4 thematic areas of concerns selecting any sub-topics for weekly discussion. The topics will vary as wide as possible with some customisation for television audiences.
The programme will feature selected and credible resource persons and the engagement is aired for about 30 minute’s discussion on the featured topic under the SDGs. The media discussion series will be managed by REEDs- Centre for Development Work and Niger Delta Forum for Positive Governance – facilitated by media consultancy
The programme is aired weekly on Quest 93.1FM based in Delta State and received in all the LGAs in Delta, Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers and Anambra, part of Ondo and Enugu States. The signal of the station is well received.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
The programme is produced by seasoned professionals. to this end, continous capacity building is for some of the drama crew in understanding the contents of the SDGs to enable better understanding of the goals. However, the key requirement for technology transfer is for the instruments used in production. Understanding the studio requirements such as Microphone, Smart recorders and mixers.
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
Basically, the programme is aired every week on Quest 93.1FM. Once the programme is aired, it is then uploaded online via dropbox.com on facebook and other social media platforms. We usually get feedback through our platforms such as WhatsApp, SMS, twitter and facebook. comments and suggestions are also sent to our email account.
