Access to healthcare to un-reached people in Nigeria
Description/achievement of initiative

Ohaha Famiy Foundation, Nigeria took a strategic direction of ensuring that people and communities cut-out and isolated are provided access to quality and free medical services at home or closest to their residences. This is because most of the target group do not have access to medical care and in order to reach more people in more places, health care services is taken to their homes.

Implementation methodologies

The programme (Kiwon Lafiya) is unique and strategic in that it takes health care to the people. Despite the federal Government of Nigeria''s effort through the ministry of health, there is still a huge unreached number of people cur out by crisis, disasters, inaccessible topography and distance away from modern civilization that still lack access to medical services. Kiwon Lafiya team, strategically select location based on agreed upon set of rules, sends a team for need analysis, analyse the information and based on need sets up a team, mobilise materials and implement the programme. Thereafter the M&E team analyses the programme to maintain programme objective.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

We engage in continues learning and capacity building of individual team members and the overall team. We engage the use of www.disaster ready.org as a useful learning platform, meet in-person 2 times a year for reviews and trainings, and in the case of any emergency situation we use mobile communication tools for seemless communication. In the case of innovative technology, we share knowledge and experiences as new information, tools and resources is available.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

For each program location, we have a programme team comprising the programme coordinator, pror am me officer, field officers and then medical team, led by head of mission. The programme coordinator is appointed by the head of the organisation after due consuLatin with relevant stakeholders.
