United for Efficiency supports developing countries and emerging economies to leapfrog their markets to energy-efficient appliances and equipment, with the overall objective to reduce global electricity consumption and mitigate climate change. United for Efficiency broadens the scope of high-efficiency products from lighting to additional appliances and equipment that have a high potential for electricity savings, such as room air conditioners, residential refrigerators, electric motors, distribution transformers and information and communication technologies.

The initiative -Informs policy makers of the potential environmental, financial and economic savings of a transition to high-efficiency products -Identifies and promotes global best practices in transforming markets -Offers tailored assistance to governments to develop and implement national and regional strategies and projects to achieve a fast and sustainable market transformation.

Multiple national and regional projects in Africa, South-East Asia and South America build capacities of local policymakers and technical experts.

Under the leadership of the UN Environment, United for Efficiency brings together all key stakeholders active in the area of product efficiency. Within the initiative, product-specific working groups meet regularly to advance relevant topics and projects.

UN Environment, United Nations Development Programme, International Copper Association, CLASP, Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Global Efficient Lighting Centre as well as over 20 global manufacturers and technical initiatives and organisations.
