Environment and Sustainable Development Initiative, University of Arizona
Description/achievement of initiative

The Environment and Sustainable Development initiative at the University of Arizona brings together faculty and students in research, teaching and outreach programs related to environmental aspects of sustainable development at scales from the local to the global.

Implementation methodologies

Seed funding for research, organization of conferences, preparation of publications, teaching about sustainable development.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

We teach a large number of courses on sustainable development and offer a Masters in Development Practice. The University has an office of Sustainability and just received gold ranking from AASHE. We partner with organizations and universities across the world in projects. We work closely with City of Tucson and Pima County to provide evidence base for SD initiatives

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

A network of core faculty, led by Professor Diana Liverman, with advisors from the community. Meet once a month.
