Description/achievement of initiative
This project addresses the incorporation of ocean and land borne impacts in coastal zone management. Through assessing land-use and marine governance the project has a goal of identifying integrated pathways for management actions that address impacts on land based-economic development, fisheries management, livelihoods and conservation.
The investigation is carried out through the answering of three research questions:
1) 1.How does land use impact fisheries, marine tourism, and livelihoods in the coastal zone?
2) How does private and public governance interact and impact coastal livelihoods?
3) How do we integrate land use and coastal zone management to achieve desired policy priorities?
Implementation methodologies
Implementation is through a range of methodologies:
- Interviews with participants in fishing and marine tourism industries.
- Surveys of stakeholders deriving their livelihoods from the land and/or ocean.
- Interviews with those involved in marine, land use, and water governance.
- Reviews of literature, policy, and legal instruments.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
building is ensured through stakeholder engagement. A full range of relevant stakeholders took part in research design workshops in March 2017. In a February 2018 workshop, the same group of stakeholders will be presented with a policy briefs and a framework for integrating land use management and coastal zone management.
