Description/achievement of initiative
To empower 3600 rural population with skills in sustainable agriculture targeting (3) three districts(Mansa,Kasama and Mkushi) and skills in adaptation strategies for climate change. The initiative will target female, male and youth farmers in the three districts of Zambia in improving the skills in agriculture through promoting organic, improved production, improved nutrition for pregnant women, young female adults and children.
Implementation methodologies
The initiative will be implemented using a project management approach. The high level of management will be a project management team with leadership of a project manager from Groups Focused Consultations . The project will form appropriate committees to manage its activities as a means for internal controls. The initiative will use a matrix approach and a bottom up approach with regards to monitoring. The PLA ( participatory learning in Action and Participatory Monitoring approach will be used to promote effective ownership and sustainability of the initiative.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
The parties engaged in the initiative which includes: Copper-belt university, Information Communication University,Ministry of Agriculture and Groups Focused Consultations have enough capacity in the areas of the initiative which will be passed on to the target population. The initiative will also work with its partners from the Netherlands in the area of organic farming.
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
This initiative will be governed by a project management team consisted by Groups Focused Consultations, Copperbelt University and at least 2 staff from Ministry of Agriculture. Groups Focused Consultations has a board and the project management team will report to the board as well as to the district development coordinating committee of each of the three target districts.
