Description/achievement of initiative
Health information collection is maturing within Kenya, with improved data accuracy, more widespread technology to reach to the lowest levels, and improved information collection techniques.
However, there is a new challenge in the offing: Data analysis, management, and reporting.
We hereby commit ourselves to address this within the health sector.
Implementation methodologies
The experts shall interact with MoH and county health records officers to determine quality of data in the systems being run by counties as the first activity. This shall take place on the first month of the project. From the findings, initial plans for training on clean data capture and analysis shall be carried out, and the results made available. These shall be shared with individual entities, and strategies to improve on quality and completeness of data put in place. Modern data science skills shall be imparted to the county staff as well. The programme shall assist the counties to do critical periodic reports, and impart skills of utilizing data for decision making. This is expected to last 6 months per year.
The activities shall be repeated over the three year period to instill the right practices in health data management at county level.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
This initiative shall be governed from the Council of Governors office, in conjunction with the county administrations. The Ministry of Health, being a key participant shall be informed and shall handle regulatory framework.
KMPDU shall bring in medical personnel to implement the strategies.
