Technology for Sustainable Development
Description/achievement of initiative

To promote technology-led growth in Pakistan, a comprehensive R&D promotion program was devised and implemented. It achieved two objectives:1) Promoted solution-oriented research culture across Pakistan by involving 300+ universities, industries, social and governmental organizations2) Developed a locally fit technology transfer mechanism and number of solutions were transferred from universes to industry creating new business, employment and other positive effects

Implementation methodologies

The project involved operations led by a parent organization, IRP, with the support of 300+ partner organizations and 500+ volunteer networks. IRP made the technology led sustainable development program owned and shared by related individuals and organizations, and created a number of small units and centres to run various operations.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

A dedicated business unit was created to train and build capacity, and around 10-15 training workshops are organized each year to build capacity of stakeholders on science and technology. Also, a dedicated business unit was developed to transfer technology from universities and S&T institutions to industry and new ventures. The technology managers’ team consists of science, engineering, and management graduates manage the entire process from idea to production and transfer of technology with ensured economic output.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

An independent organization was established and led by private industry people. All the stakeholders are invited under the umbrella of this organization. IRP emerged as common platform for all science and technology stakeholders.
