Description/achievement of initiative
The initiative is aimed at building capacity among graduates of tertiary educational institutions of small island developing states in the Caribbean to shape/inform, influence and implement policies designed to enhance sustainable development and achieve the SDGs in SIDS.
Implementation methodologies
Meetings will be held to elicit from each focal point person a key policy that he/she would like to spearhead and a project that they may implement to operationalize such a policy. The central approach is to identify a local, community-based project that may have a cascading impact in terms of sustainability.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
On-line short courses will be offered to participants and workshops will be conducted with invited sustainability specialists.
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
This initiative will be coordinated and governed by selected focal point persons drawn from the Faculties of Life Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences and Law who will identify one aspect of sustainable development which they would like to lead in helping SIDS meet the SDGs and targets.
