Assistance to Improve the Lives of Farmers in Southeast Asia
Description/achievement of initiative

The Global Agricultural Exchange (GAX) commitment is to create the infrastructure for a global-level marketplace dedicated to the agricultural community starting with Southeast Asia. The marketplace will create opportunities for farmers, connecting farmers to other farmers (for the purpose of barter trading, sharing of resources, buying and selling to each other), connecting farmers to buyers nationally, regionally and globally (providing more options for sales to small and medium farmers), connecting farmers to consumers (which will help give a grater profit margin for each sale where farmers can earn more) and connecting farmers to financing for working capital.

Implementation methodologies

This initiative will be carried out in the form of an online commerce platform which brings in farmers and connects them to other farmers, buyers, consumers and financing. The online commerce platform is powered by Blockchain Technology, IOT and Artificial Intelligence. We will need to work closely with farmers at the local level, provide access for them to mobile phones and cellular connections. We will also be educating rural farmers through a certification program, as such we will be inculcating the UN SDGs, among other sustainable farming practices.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

We will be conducting training for farmers that will on-board the Global Marketplace in terms of food safety, responsible sourcing and sustainable food production. We will also be teaching about food safety to the farmers. We aim to increase the productivity of farmers through the use of better quality seeds and fertilizers. We will also educate farmers and consumers on the importance of blockchain technology and how it works.
