Description/achievement of initiative
Putting education at the heart of the Orphanage home
1. Education in Orphanage home should give individuals the skills they need to unlock their potential, gain employment, and become assets to their communities. It is one of the pillars of effective child upbringing. Education should build social capital and improve the well-being of orphans during their stay.
2. Improved orphans education can transform individual orphans lives, but it can also benefit society by building safer communities and reducing the significant financial and social costs arising from criminal activities
Implementation methodologies
To put education at the heart of the regime, unlock the potential in orphans, and reduce restiveness:
1. Every orphan must use a consistent and rigorous assessment mechanism to set a baseline against which to measure individualsà academic performance and screen for learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD). [Chapter 1]
2. Every orphan must have a Personal Learning Plan that specifies the educational activity that should be undertaken during their stay. This should be in a consistent digital format that can follow the orphan through the system if they move from one orphanage home to the other. [Chapter 1]
3. A core set of educational performance measures should be used by all orphanage home. Such data should be monitored consistently to drive continuous improvement.
4. We shall carry out inspections using the same framework as for the adult skills sector, with inspection intervals and follow-up arrangements driven by performance data and levels of performance.
