Education and Girl Power - Inoyo Toro Foundation
Description/achievement of initiative

SUBJECT DEVELOPMENT To encourage the development of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English Language in Akwa Ibom State Public Secondary Schools. PROMOTING THE SCIENCES To create awareness of the importance of the aforementioned subjects and the benefit of specializing in the Sciences at a later stage. REWARDING PERFORMANCE To foster positive and healthy competition for excellence among teachers. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Creating initiatives and causes to contribute to Community Development. COMPLEMENTING GOVERNMENT To complement Government’s efforts in enhancing the quality of education in Akwa Ibom State.

Implementation methodologies

The Foundation does not only recognise the achievements of teachers but also provides training and skills enhancement opportunities to enhance their career and make them better teachers. The foundation also provides the platform to facilitate teachers' certification by recognised institutions/bodies. Furthermore, A mentoring Program cut across various secondary schools is initiated with the aim to give the students and teachers titbits on how to make learning, teaching and the general progress possible.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

The Foundation with appropriate sponsorship wants to set up a comprehensive Information & Communications Technology (ICT) centre in various secondary schools across the ten Senatorial Districts in Akwa Ibom State to encourage the learning of Information Technology. This Project among other things would provide a fully equipped Internet ready computer lab with a projector, a 27kva standby generator, a British Curriculum and a privately employed Curriculum Coordinator to effectively coordinate studies across the schools. The Foundation with appropriate sponsor will be sending the awardees from the just concluded 2018 annual teachers award for training at the British International school , Lagos in April 2019.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The Board of Trustees is the key decision making body of the Foundation and drives the Foundation towards achieving its set goals and objectives. The Inoyo Toro Foundation is blessed with dedicated volunteers who have given their time and expertise in assuring that the Foundation fulfils its mission. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees who provide the strategic vision for the organization.
