Empowering young girls and spreading knowledge of gender equality
Description/achievement of initiative

Use sports as a vehicle to achieve gender equality. In many countries, girls face gender inequality right from their childhood. Subtle actions by different cultures ingrain gender inequality in the subconscious mind of a developing girl, for example encouragement a boy gets in playing sport compared to a girl. Objective is to enable girls to play sport, build their confidence, develop leadership skills and build a supporting community for each other. Communities which are poor or does not invest in organized sport for girls can be helped by donations of sports gear [jerseys, equipment etc] for organized sports.

Implementation methodologies

SKCharities have built relationships between universities and colleges in US to donate their high quality sports gear that they stop using because of varying reasons [change in logo, color, design etc]. This gear is used to support organized sports in communities where parents cant afford to spend money on girls to play a sport. SKCharities have worked with communities in Haiti [Sakala, Cite Soliel], Go Sports Nepal [Kathmandu, Nepal], Slum Soccer [Nagpur, India], Soccer without borders [Oakland, CA, USA], National Association for Blind [Mumbai, India] etc. to conduct tournaments locally. The initial response was very good. For example, the event in Kathmandu, Nepal had 160 girls participate, got local media coverage and the facebook post reached 1300 people. Our goal is to continue with these efforts in 2019 and take it to more communities and have a larger impact in those communities.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Have build strong relationships with donors - colleges and universities in US to donate jerseys and sports gear. There is a steady stream of donations coming. Working on a storage room for all the donation and transportation setup. Currently equipment is stored in garages and individual's local available space.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
