The Sio-Siteko Wetland – Community Based Environmental Management Plan
Description/achievement of initiative

Objective 1: To Increase community capacities and awareness about sustainable wetland management. Objective 2: To reduce community vulnerability to climate change. Objective 3: For the protection and conservation of the Sio-Siteko Wetland.

Implementation methodologies

Objective 1: Increased community capacities and awareness about sustainable wetland management. Output 1.1: Establish committee Output 1.2: Stakeholder workshop Output 1.3: Training on citizens’ science using mobile technology Output 1.4: Facilitate sustainable management of wetland _________________________________________________ Objective 2: Reduced community vulnerability to climate change. Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Supporting environmental management training, information exchange, state-of-the-art-technology and best practices in [1] Promoting sustainable crop varieties [2] Providing training for diversified livelihood activities, including livestock rearing, fruit gardening, pest and disease management. [3] Promoting sustainable aquaculture [4] Wetland conservation activities [5] Other income generating activities to remove dependency on fishing and farming. [6] Citizens’ science using mobile technology to engage the community to protect and maintain wetlands for the future. [7] Monitoring and protecting plant endangered species to provide habitat for wildlife.

This initiative is governed through the Sio-Siteko Transboundary Community Based Wetland Management Plan - Vision and objectives.
