Challenging junior high and senior high school girl’s students toward solving the marine garbage problem in the Seto Inland Sea.
Introduction

Marine garbage problem is a serious environmental problem in the Seto Inland Sea. Especially, the problem of sea floor garbage problem and the problem of stray drift in the islands is difficult to solve by natural factors (severe natural environment) and social factors (very low awareness and left behind) problem. In order to solve these problems, we have been working on collecting activities and educational activities by regional collaboration 11 years ago.

Objective of the practice

Marine garbage problem including plastic waste is frequently discussed at international conferences and there is no day to see articles on problems. Marine garbage starts from the living area of household garbage, flows into the ocean through rivers, deposits on the seabed with the passage of time, and drifts to the coast of the island. Furthermore, microplastic is an urgent task of the international community as it is feared that it will affect not only the ecosystem but also the human body in the future. In order to solve this problem, we focus on collecting activities to reduce the amount of accumulated waste and enlightening activities to reduce the amount of garbage to be discarded. In our survey, the awareness of the inhabitants problem is lower than in the coastal area, and the recognition rate decreases in proportion to the distance from the sea. In addition, we identified the landfill site from the sticker attached to the garbage collected from the Seto Inland Sea. As a result, the river basin originated mostly. If the same survey is done with the garbage in the islands, the majority of the garbage originates from the terrestrial area and most of the floating garbage such as plastic and plastic bottles occupy most of the waste, so it will be within 3 days from the disposal to the strike We also confirmed the garbage. The stray garbage of the island department is repeating ashore every day. In the islands depopulated and aging populations, the islands are the islands of daily living and recovery and disposal work is very difficult. Therefore, in educational activities, it is important not only to encourage unilateral recognition but also to encourage consumer awareness and behavior changes, going back to the stage where garbage leaves consumers' hands from the seabed and coast. These activities are a big challenge for us junior high and senior high school students alone. However, by understanding the characteristics and differences of the community, our activities are deepened learning from opportunities for awareness raising activities to encourage responsible behavior of garbage disposers, in order to preserve biodiversity in the ocean We believe that it is important to work together with residents of the region for the purpose. Therefore, people involved in the fishery who knows the ocean · Media that is good at disseminating information · Administrative which can develop the infrastructure of the community · Working with NPOs with expertise in the area and problem, effective utilizing the special fields of stakeholders We realized our efforts.

Key stakeholders and partnerships

For the marine garbage problem, different stakeholders value differentiation from their specialty fields toward the same goal with different approaches. We ask fishermen for collection activities and ask the administration to dispose of garbage. Implementation of enlightenment lessons and experiential learning sessions is undertaken together with NPOs and administration, and public relations activities are conducted from the media. Information dissemination is spread not only to the area but also to the country and the world. Furthermore, at the international conference and academic conference, "Plastics garbage problem" has appealed before it was shared worldwide.

Conclusions

We think that our activities will be models of other areas and islands with the same problem. That is because the world is connected with the sea, and human beings have disposed of the garbage in the sea. Recycling activities of seabed garbage we are working on is a pioneering activity worldwide. Although there is no public collector, I would like to reduce the amount of garbage accumulated on the seabed by continuing collecting. In addition, as a result of collecting and collecting garbage waste from focused islands, many stakeholders began to take initiative in activities, not only in Teshima Island but also on other islands in the Seto Inland Sea has also begun. I think that it is mission to spread these spreads throughout Japan and around the world.
