Tertiary Students for Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) Ambassador Program
Description/achievement of initiative

1. Increase awareness, expand the knowledge-base and increase the participation and involvement of tertiary students in discourses, programs, and activities targeted at the SDGs at the local, regional, national and international scenes. 2. Provide opportunity for tertiary students to engage with some selected communities to develop, implement and monitor programs aimed at achieving localized SDGs and their indicators. 3. Provide opportunity for tertiary students to develop innovative ideas or projects for investment purposes within the SDGs framework with the potential to attract both local and foreign investors

Implementation methodologies

Awareness creation and student mobilization on campuses will involve the creation of SDGs corner/platform” during hall week celebrations to enable ambassadors create awareness by distributing flyers and other educational materials, as well as engage students on the SDGs and their attainment Also,the ambassadors will organize conferences/seminars/symposiums on their respective campuses on the attainment of the SDGs in Ghana. The ambassadors will commemorate international days on specific SDGs or their indicators by undertaking projects or activities such as conferences, seminars. There will be a yearly ambassadorial debate across the tertiary institution on whether or not Ghana is performing well with respect to the achievement of the SDGs. Community outreach and engagement will involve the ambassadors undertaking community outreach program to create awareness on SDGs.The ambassadors will conduct needs of some selected communities in relation to the SDGs prior to undertaking such outreach programs. The outcome of the needs assessment will inform the ambassadors on which goal or indicator is of priority to such community. The ambassadors will then initiate tailored advocacy towards such priority areas. The innovative projects or ideas shall be showcased at a regional SDG Investment Drive exhibition for potential investors in the region(s). The top best innovative projects or ideas shall be showcased at the national and/or international levels to attract potential foreign investors into the country.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The program is currently limited to 10 tertiary institutions located across 10 regions in the country, as shown in Table 1. A total of 17 Ambassadors will be selected from each institution for each of the 17 goals. Thus, a total of 170 SDG Campus Ambassadors will be recruited for the program. First phase: Call for applications into the Ambassador program shall be advertised widely using various platforms, including social media, print and electronic media, and websites. Second phase: The applications shall be reviewed to develop a shortlist of applicants. Third phase: The shortlisted applicants shall be interviewed and a final selection will be made. Fourth phase: The SDG Campus Ambassadors shall receive training and shall be inaugurated. The Tertiary Students for SDGs Ambassador Program ambassadorial program is designed to be gender sensitive and inclusive for persons with disabilities. In this regard, for each institution, 40% and 20% of the ambassadorial position shall be reserved for competent and motivated females and persons with disability, respectively.
