Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption (GRF-SPaC)
Description/achievement of initiative

To strengthen the community of researchers and practitioners engaged in research on the worldwide transition to sustainable production and consumption systems. The Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption was created by and for the community of researchers and practitioners engaged in research on the worldwide transition to sustainable production and consumption systems. GRF's ultimate goal is to enhance development and adoption of production and consumption policies, practices and systems which meet basic needs - especially of the poor and vulnerable - and provide prosperity, while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.

Implementation methodologies

The Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption is comprised of a network of academics and professionals working in a diverse array of disciplines and practice fields. GRF draws its membership from more than 25 countries around the world. The membership brings a wealth of cross-sectorial and interdisciplinary experience and knowledge to the Forum, as well as being an inter-generational collaboration that connects more experienced researchers and practitioners with the next generation of SPAC professionals.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

GRF organizes conferences, workshops, panels and events, providing opportunities for members to share knowledge and experience as well as initiating processes to explore relevant policies, research projects and proposals and incubate research/practice/policy partnerships contributing to global and local sustainability issues and needs. GRF events also serve as incubation space to encourage and develop cross-regional and cross-disciplinary initiatives.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

GRF is governed by an Executive/Organizing Committee composed of founding and active members which holds international conference calls and meets in conjunction with major GRF conferences and events.
