Description/achievement of initiative
The project is to create a Hub at Khadur Sahib and to integrate the excellent work on sustainable development, poverty reduction and education being undertaken by the institution NIshan-e-Sikhi. The HUb will reach out to other voluntary sector organisations and education institutions to increase awareness of SDGs and encourage them to sign up and set targets. The Khadur Sahib Hub will promote SDG partnerships in Punjab initially and then work to reach other regions in India. Nishan-e-Sikhi is an affiliate of Sikh Human Rights Group which has ECOSOC status
Implementation methodologies
The Nishan-e-Sikhi institution is already undertaking substantive projects in regard to SDGs. They encourage villages to sign up to their project and work together to promote the SDG projects. Village heads are encouraged to liaise with the Nishan-e-Sikhi to plant saplings on farms , by road sides, to better understand environmental issues and to promote education as well as skill development.
Nishan-e-Sikhi also holds events at its conference rooms to promote better understaning of SDGs
The first mini regional meeting will be held on 28/5/2019. A working plan to engage other NGOs and institution will be drafted and implemented. The Hub will announce itself and invite other NGOs and institutions to join in the comprehensive plan. The staff at the hub goes out and meet other NGOs and institutions and give advice.
The work will be undertaken formally to integrate as many projects as possible with SDGs and sign up.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
Nishan-E-Sikhi already has considerable expertise in environment issues, tree planting, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, education for disadvantages and vulnerable adults, encourage career development and voluntary work.
It will set up a team for out reach and advise other NGOs and institutions both in capacity building and technology transfer
It will also encourage established education institutions to join in.
It will hold regular seminars at its headquarters to promote technology transfer and assist in capacity building
SHRG will work closely with Nishan-e-Sikhi and encourage engagement of United Nations staff to work alongside this project
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
Sikh Human Rights Group (SHRG) will drive the project for partnerships and Nishan-e-Sikhi will engage partners in the region as well as in other parts of India. The Director of SHRG will nominate a member in UK to regularly maintain communications with Nishan-e-Sikhi, offer guidance and link various projects with United Nations. Nishan-e-Sikhi will nominate staff to reach out to other projects that meet SDGs, to nominate key persons to improve awareness of SDGs and to write regular quarterly reports on progress. The reports will be published on SHRG website, Nishan-e-Sikhi website and the NGO or institution which integrates their project. The later will only put up reports relevant to them.
