Shilpa Sayura: Local Language E-Learning
Description/achievement of initiative

Shilpa Sayura develops and provides an e learning system with digital content for learning national curriculum at rural Telecentres in Sri Lanka to help youth and children whose education is hampered by lack of teachers, books and education resources and poverty. Since 2005 the project has helped reducing early school drop-offs, improving examination results, and employment opportunities by youth.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

Shilpa Sayura Foundation was formed by key stakeholders in 2009 after the successful pilot, the e-Sri Lanka project, which was funded by ICTA e-Society. Shilpa Sayura has been recognized as a global example of innovation and impact with number of international awards like I4D 2007, GKP 2007, Stockholm Challenge 2008, Diskobolos 2008, WYSA 2008 (Runner up), e-India 2009, Lien I3 Challenge 2009, including Best Corporate Citizen CSR awards in 2008 and 2009.
