#SDGAction1
Reporting year: 2016
Achievement at a glance
The ASD have submitted the Written Statement on National Assembly SDGs Forum(NSD) and SDGs Business Index(SDGBI) to the 15th Session of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and 2016 ECOSOC High Level Segment(HLS). Also, we invited H.E. Ms.Erna Solberg, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway and the Chairperson of the UN SDGs Advocate to introduce the frameworks of our initiative, NSD and SDGBI when she recently visited Korea. Above all, NSD will be registered as the official Legislative Research Organization of Korea National Assembly, which is an unprecedented model in the world.
Challenges faced in implementation
Persuading businesses and the assembly to engage in the actions for the SDGs is a challenging task. As far as businesses and the assembly have their own discreet aims, no one is able to force them to participate in such actions although SDGs is designed for wellbeing of all human. Therefore, specific incentive has to be given to the enterprises, and we analyze and present SDGBI as a token for their participation. In other words, we figurate SDGs activities of enterprises to persuade them that participation in SDGs is beneficial for business management. The National Assembly also requires justifications for legislation and budget allocation. The UN can provide relevant justifications and appropriate assistance to the assembly struggling for the achievement of SDGs.
Next steps
The ASD will present SDGBI collaborately with the Chosun Biz (a major press) on the SDGs activities of 150 major global businesses of Korea, and register for the official Legislative Research Organization of Korea National Assembly. We will also attend ECOSOC committee meetings related to NSD and SDGBI, submitting official statement to the United Nations High Level Forum and major conferences. We will visit the UN headquarter this year to strengthen cooperative bond between NSD and the United Nations.

Actions
The United Nations has acknowledged that participation of global enterprises and the assembly of each country are crucial through MDGs. The goals were not fully achieved, however, because businesses who possess large proportion of infrastructure and finance did not actively engaged in MDGs actions. Korea Association for Supporting the SDGs for the United Nations (ASD) thought such engagement of businesses is essential, and established the SDGBI. To support SDGs policies of the government and promote discussions and legislation on the SDGs within the National Assembly, we established a platform, the NSD. In turn, these two frameworks can be a role model for the United Nations, National Assembly of each country and businesses around the world, inspiring other member nations of the United Nations to put more efforts for practical implementation of SDGs based on our model.
