Reporting year: 2016
Achievement at a glance
ARDI provides access to over 28,000 journals, books, and reference works from 31 publishers for 117 developing countries, with over 800 institutions using the program actively as of mid-2016. Further, ARDI is partnering with other international organizations, including the WHO, FAO, and UNDP on Research4Life. In 2016, ARDI is also organizing together with the other Research4Life partners a research advocacy competition, which encourages developing country-based organizations to submit entries describing their leadership in supporting evidence-based health care, agricultural and environmental policy, and basic research in their countries. In 2015, WIPO also published various training modules on how to better utilize ARDI.
Challenges faced in implementation
Continuing need to increase visibility, awareness and training in accessing and searching the Research4Life programs, including ARDI. Technical infrastructure challenges exist in providing user friendlier access procedures and search functionalities, as well as having sufficient funds to cover infrastructure and training expenses.
Next steps
The Research4Life partnership has adopted a new Strategic Plan “Our Vision for 2020 and Beyond” with the objectives of expanding the programs reach and use, assuring effective program delivery and overcoming barriers to use, as well as leveraging and adding value to the programs through external partnerships and funding.
