Since its launch in 2006, the Partnership has engaged high-level leaders to catalyze US$150 million for island action and assisted 35+ countries to launch or strengthen major sustainable island commitments. In 2016, the Partnership became a member based partnership and now has more than 25 members and 30 friends working in collaborating to achieve the 2030 Strategy. From June 2016 to June 2017, the Partnership coordinated 3 high level events at the Pacific Island Conference of Leaders, IUCN World Conservation Congress, CBD COP13 and UN Oceans Conference that has demonstrated the leadership of islands united in strong partnerships to implement the SAMOA Pathway, SDGs and Paris Agreement. This has resulted in: - engaging 7 new island leaders as island resilience champions supporting implementation of the GLISPA 2030 Strategy - launching the Island Resilience Initiative, a long-term effort to share island models such as the Micronesia, Caribbean and Aloha+ Challenges. This initiative begins with financial support from the GEF Small Grants Programme implemented by UNDP and Italian Development Cooperation and is implemented by GLISPA with c-dots and Precovery Labs - launched the BEST Challenge Initiative as a new sustainable island commitment to foster cooperation between islands of Europe Overseas and other islands - showcased the impact of sustainable island commitments contribution to implementation of SDG 14 and global goals including Palau National Marine Sanctuary, Micronesia Challenge, Caribbean Challenge Initiative, Seychelles Blue Economy Vision, Aloha+ Challenge and the BEST Challenge

Continuing to implement the GLISPA 2030 Strategy leveraging the opportunities presented by the Our Oceans Conference in Malta and UNFCCC COP23 with Fiji as COP President to demonstrate the leadership of islands united in strong partnerships building resilience.
