Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES)
Description/achievement of initiative

GUPES, the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability, is UNEP’s flagship program on environmental education as a contribution to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, 2005-14. Launched in June 2012, in the lead up to Rio+20 and as part of the joint UN Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), the goal of GUPES is to increase mainstreaming of environment and sustainability practices and curricula into universities by supporting innovative approaches to education. In this context, SIDS Universities, including the SIDS Universities Consortium, are welcome to join the GUPES network, and participate in specific initiatives related to environmental education, training and networking, including South-South collaboration.
