Improving Global Water Quality
Description/achievement of initiative

A mechanism to enable governments to establish policy and legal frameworks for addressing deteriorating water quality will be initiated.

Implementation methodologies

UNEP is committed to support the international process for improving global water quality through:

1) Developing International Water Quality Guidelines for Aquatic Ecosystems to serve as a reference for establishing national/regional policy and legal frameworks;

2) Strengthening global process for monitoring, storing and accessing water quality information

3) Keeping the global water quality under review through water quality assessment reports
