26 August 2009, 12:00-1:00pm
New York, ECOSOC Chamber
To support Governments and all stakeholders in meeting this important challenge, DESA is working together with interested Country Missions to bring to the UN, a series of high-level speakers who will provide the most up-to-date analysis of the economic, social and environmental basis for action on climate change.
The first of such talks will be given by the Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Nobel Prize Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Rajendra Pachauri. In a presentation entitled “The Scientific Basis for Climate Policy”, Dr. Pachauri will discuss science as the basis for action on climate change, covering also the substantive issues to be discussed at Secretary General's Climate Change Summit to be held on 22 September.
The event, organized by the Missions of Sweden and Pakistan, with support from the UN-DESA Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), will take place on the 26th August from 12:00-1:00 PM in the ECOSOC Chamber in UN Headquarters, New York. All Member States, UN staff and interested stakeholders with access to UN premises are invited to attend this important event.
Organizers hope that Dr. Pachauri’s briefing will elucidate the science of climate change in a way that spurs greater understanding of the need for action and as well as a renewed spirit for a successful outcome in Copenhagen.
