Former Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for Development

The Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for Development was established by Economic and Social Council resolution 1998/46 of 31 July 1998, which called for the merger of the former Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on New and Renewable Sources of Energy and on Energy for Development. According to its terms of reference, the new Committee was composed of government-nominated experts divided into two sub-groups of twelve members each dealing with issues related to energy and water resources, respectively. The Committee met biennially. The work of the committee was transferred to the Commission on Sustainable Development by the Plan of Implementation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

Former Committee on Natural Resources

Terms of Reference:

The Committee on Natural Resources was established by Economic and Social Council decision 1992/218 in accordance with General Assembly resolution A/RES/46/235 on the restructuring and revitalization of the United Nations in the economic, social and related fields. The Committee was composed of 24 government-nominated experts acting in their personal capacity. Members were elected for four year terms by the Economic and Social Council on the recommendation of national governments. Seats were allocated on a regional basis on follows: six representatives from Africa; five from Asia; four from Latin American and the Caribbean; three from Eastern Europe; and six from Western Europe and Other states. The Committee met biennially for two weeks.
