Description/achievement of initiative
The availability and sustainability of water resources enhanced by providing practical support in 20 to 25 countries for implementing SDG 6.5 and other water-related SDGs.
Implementation methodologies
National, regional and global level partners are mobilised to support project implementation. The projects within the SDG Preparedness Facility (SDG PF) are anchored at national level. The management of the projects is through a GWP Country Water Partnership (CWP) which makes use of its position as a neutral, multi-stakeholder platform to gain buy-in for the project from the institutions mandated to achieve the SDGs in the sel ected country. By locating the project management unit at the CWP level, the SDG PF increases the likelihood of local ownership and sustainability of results while benefitting from the overall GWP network structure through higher-level project management support and guidance from regional and global levels (as well as opportunities for project-to-project knowledge exchange among participating CWPs).
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
The initiative is structured according to SDG 17: financing, policy and institutions, monitoring, knowledge and capacity building, and strengthening of partnerships.
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
The initiative will be monitored through GWP’s monitoring and evaluation system which enables an analysis to be made of the links between project activities and the outcomes and impact, through the collection and documentation of updates from Regional and Country Water Partnerships
