Description/achievement of initiative
2010: Nestlé commits to expanding nutrition education to teenage girls in all its milk villages in India to help increase their knowledge about good nutrition and healthy diets. Nestlé also aims to double the number of countries covered by its “Healthy Kids Global Program” launched in 2010, and already has programs in over 50 countries reaching 5 million children. Nestlé is rapidly expanding the training of women to be door to door entrepreneurs and distributors of healthy food products, earning on the average 40% more than minimum wage. In Brazil alone, 6,000 have been trained, to expand to 10,000 by the beginning of 2011. Nestlé supports over 250 programs in countries around the world aimed at empowering women to gain economic independence and escape poverty in three primary areas: farming, nutrition, and small-scale distributors of food products.
