Quisqueya Verde
Description/achievement of initiative

Quisqueya Verde is an ongoing plan that began in 1997, and was created by the Decree No. 138-97. Its general objective was to "improve the living conditions of rural populations through the use of natural resources, employment generation, environmental protection and strengthening coordination between state institutions and civil society organizations working for sustainable development."

Its main objective is to improve the conditions of life of the population in the rural zones, by planting 44 million trees throughout the country, particularly along the Dominico-Haitian border, generating employment, protection of the environment and the coordination between government institutions and the organizations of the civil society that work in favor of the sustainable development.
