Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework, Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda: 2010-2013
Description/achievement of initiative

The main target of this policy framework is to put the economy on the path to achieving a per capita income of least US $3000 by 2020 and attaining the Millennium Development Goals. The document emphasises the importance of sound management of natural resources and the environment for attaining these goals.

The document, therefore, aims to ensure "sustainability in the use of natural resources". Given the recent discovery of oil, the framework stipulates that A key policy objective is to ensure that the practices of the oil and gas industry are consistent with international standards of environmental sustainability. Natural gas utilisation will become a central part of every oil production project.
