Partnership for Sustainability Education
Description/achievement of initiative

The Partnership for Sustainability Education focuses on the importance of Sustainability for the environment, the society and economic growth. The Partnership aims to create awareness and educate government and business leaders, students and academia on the importance of SDGs and how an effective long-term sustainability strategy can contribute to a more viable future. For this purpose, an academic entity and a business entity have joined their forces. A special course has been created, which is included in the i-MBA curriculum, and a special event is jointly organized every year where representatives from business community, academia and students are present.

Implementation methodologies

Recognizing the imperative of making students and tomorrows business leaders aware of sustainability, CSE and the AUEB MBA International program have been jointly organizing an Annual Sustainability Summit since 2016. The Summit is addressed to students, entrepreneurs and business leaders and aims to create awareness and educate them on the importance of sustainability and its integration in business policies. The Summit focuses on a different theme each year, to shed light to a different angle. The 2017 Summit focused on the theme Sustainability: The New Business Enabler and featured as guest speakers the Deputy Director of GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and CSR managers of organizations and corporations, who shared their experiences with responsible business practices. The 2016 summit was centered around the Role of the Sustainability Professional in the Current Economic Environment, Challenges & Opportunities and featured as key note speaker one of the Co-Founders & Board Members of B Lab Europe. The Summit is attended every year by distinguished members of the business world and academia from Greece and abroad and distinctions are awarded to companies that have taken significant initiatives on Corporate Social Responsibility during the previous year as well as to MBA International students and alumni. The Summit also attracts considerable media attention, with various print and online articles triggered by the event. The Summit is usually prologued by the Academic Director MBA International Program and coordinated by the CEO of CSE and visiting professor for Corporate Responsibility at the University.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

The Annual Sustainability Summit is jointly carried out by CSE and the AUEB MBA International. Resources from both partners are made available for the timely preparation and successful implementation of the event. Arrangements include event management, event communication, promotion materials, speakers management, invitees management, media contacts and publicity generation.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The Partnership is governed by its two key drivers, the Centre for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) and the MBA International of Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB MBA International). With its global expertise on Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility issues, CSE has been providing advanced professional education and specialized advisory services on the field for more than a decade, through physical, online and group training programs, as well as projects, conferences, and workshops. With the IEMA accreditation and the GRI certified training provider license, CSE has educated thousands of CSR professionals, students and entrepreneurs all around the world, awarding them with a Certified Sustainability Practitioner qualification. The AUEB MBA International program, offered by the leading academic institution in Greece in Business and Economics and accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), is an innovative program that offers high-quality education to form the future business leaders. A special course on the program syllabus has been designed in partnership with CSE on Global Sustainability Strategies and Reporting which aspires to educate tomorrows entrepreneurs and corporate executives on the importance of sustainability and corporate responsibility along the dimensions of governance, human rights, and environmental respect. The course also provides up-to-date knowledge and expertise with global best cases and latest trends and developments in the field.
