Asia Dalit Rights Forum
Description/achievement of initiative

The Objectives of the Asia Dalit Right Forum is to end discrimination based on caste and similarly structural and systemic exclusions which are barriers for the development of the 300 million people around the world. SDGs are the vehicle for the caste affected communities to address their holistic socio-economic development through effective participation in development for Dalit and caste affected communities through disaggregated data and access to development and justice. It aims to unify DWD communities from other parts of the world like Roma (Europe), Burakumin (Japan), Haratin (Mauritania, Mali), Quilombolas (Brazil) and Diaspora (Europe, USA) in addressing SDGs.

Implementation methodologies

ADRF activities: 1. Advocacy: ADRF country chapters work with the national government and civil societies towards the implementation and monitoring of the SDGs in the country. It works with the community for data collection and community monitoring of the SDG implementation. Participate in the national and state consultations and indicator making process. Work with parliamentarians towards addressing the inclusion and participation of the caste affected communities in the SDG model. Working with media in wide spreading the message of SDG and leave no one behind. 2. Empowerment: Capacity building programmes for the community. Trainings, workshops on goals and target for Dalit community, especially for girls, children and youth. Trainings for the parliamentarians and local government officials on SDG and development paradigm. 3. Research: ADRF takes wide variety of research on specific topics within the SDG framework from poverty, hunger, education, gender rights, employment, reducing inequalities, DRR, Climate change, Sustainable urban settlements, Human rights and means of implementation. It also brings the country shadow reports since 2017. 4. Partnership in SDG: ADRF has been participating in SDG events since 2013. It is a partner in Asia Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism (APRCEM) and Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) by ESCAP. ADRF has partnered with various organisations from US and Europe including CIVICUS and Stakeholders Forum in SDG mapping and with TAP network on data disaggregation. ADRF has participated and conducted side event in HLPF 2016 and HLPF 2017. Nationally ADRF chapters are part of the SDG working groups in the 5 countries in South Asia.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

We publish our findings and researches as well as the reports of various events in our website as well as shared through our partners. We provide trainings on SDG in the national level on the SDG and inclusion, participation, transparency and accountability. Our publications are free for reference.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

ADRF appoints its chair and co chair for a term of two years. They could be re elected after two years with a democratic open voting. The ratio of the chair and co chair should always be 1:1 in gender axis. The office of the chair will be termed as the Secretariat and the functioning of the Forum will be held from the secretariat. The ADRF members will be termed as Core committee members. ADRF will also have a advisor, if deemed so by the Chair and Co Chair. Daily activities and communications will be held from ADRF Coordinator/Officer. The country charter will be decided by the democratic election.
