Description/achievement of initiative
NEPAD seeks to train 15,000 african youth/women along strategic agricultural value chains from 2017 to 2020. Target groups will include youth from rural areas, under-privileged background with specific focus on young women. NEPAD Agency will mobilize financial and technical resources from African Union, its member states, and partners such as GIZ, FAO and others.
Implementation methodologies
The NEPAD Agency seeks to promote innovative approaches for employment orientated Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) especially in Agriculture and Rural Development and with high to upscale the impact on youth development and thereby attracting and increasing investments towards skills and entrepreneurship development and ultimately employment and job creation, in Africa in partnership with the private sector and governments of Africa. The focus on supporting innovative and systems approach of integrating Agriculture into the TVET Systems and improvement of the overall TVET systems in countries, building the capacity of TVET Training Institutions to design and implement Competence-Based Curriculum along agriculture value chains and linking trainers and trainees to the private sector through industrial placement, attachments and other practical approaches to impart hands-on training to the trainees.
