Description/achievement of initiative
The Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP) is designed to create a vibrant and inclusive learning network designed to build capacity in countries around the world to strengthen environmental education leading to a more sustainable future.
Implementation methodologies
To share practical lessons learned around environmental education's role in helping achieve the SDGs, GEEP has:
- Developed a case study collection of programs and policies around the world. This collection is organized online according to what SDG is targeted. We are working to create an open access e-book of these case studies by 2020.
- Developed a discussion forum, eePRO Global, that will focus on the role of environmental education in helping achieve the SDGs.
- Working to plan a forum in the Asia Pacific region for 2020 that will work to build a coalition of environmental education leaders from the NGO, government, and private sector to develop a plan for how EE can help address one or more SDG in that region.
- Convened NGO leaders, academics, and government representatives twice per year to help forge partnerships.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
The Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP) is governed by the secretariat (North American Association for Environmental Education, or NAAEE) who handles the day-to-day functioning of GEEP. In addition, the Executive Committee, which has representation from US EPA and the GEEP Advisory Group, oversees the strategic direction of the initiative, budget, and expenses. The GEEP Advisory Group, which has representation from individuals from each region of the world, provides input into the development of the GEEP, weighing in on key decisions and possible directions for the future, including the creation of a long-term sustainability plan for the network. GEEP Advisors (including the Secretariat and the Executive Committee) meet twice per year in various locations around the world.
