Description/achievement of initiative
Until the year 2025, 10 million trees will be planted in the Czech Republic under the auspices of the voluntary initiative “Planting the Future”. The trees will be planted in the species’ habitats, agricultural landscape or along road networks as a visible measure for the adaptation of the environment to climate change, increasing the resilience of cities and landscape as well as serving as a mitigation measure (carbon sink). The initiative will be open to a broad spectrum of interested stakeholders (local governments, NGOs, businesses, individuals) and will act as a platform for offsets.
Implementation methodologies
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
Coordination mechanisms/governance structure
The initiative is organized by the Ministry of the Environment in collaboration with the Nadace Partnerstvi institution. The ministry will prepare a methodological toolkit and it will be responsible for eliminating legislative barriers which might occur. Nadace Partnerstvi will be responsible for the coordination of partners, the creation of a web platform, and public relations and financial/fiscal management.
A coordination committee consisting of all project partners will be established and arrange meetings thrice a year (approximately). Besides the committee, working groups focused on legislation, financial sources and methodology will work in a continuous manner.
The project evaluation will take into account the number of planted trees (whether the target was met) and the number of active members engaged in the initiative as well as potential changes in legislation (barriers eliminated).
