Improving disability inclusive SDG implementation across Northern Nigeria via SDG blind ambassadors’ engagement with legislators
Description/achievement of initiative

The aim of the project is to train numerous blind and visually impaired in over 16 schools for the blind across the 16 states in Northern Nigeria to serve as SDG ambassadors within their own state of residence.These SDG Ambassadors will be supported by our project for continuously engage with legislators,government, policy makers ,media and the general public within their state of residence for the an inclusive SDG implementation across all 16 states in Northern Nigeria

Implementation methodologies

It aims to cover at 2-3 school for the blind in 16 states plus the federal capital territory in Northern Nigeria by training blind and visually impaired students to be SDG ambassadors in their state of abode. Afterwards they are supported to engage on at least a monthly basis with legislators , government ,policy makers, media and the general public on an inclusive SDG implementation in the state of their residence. Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

This is a collaborative project in conjunction with Hope for the Blind ,Wusasa,Zaria Kaduna initiated by Jonathan L Ajah , a commonwealth scholarship Alumni & Physician from Nigeria with support from the project team comprisingJonathan L Ajah MBBS(ABU),MPH(UK),MSciv(Edin),FHEAiv(UK) as project founder and lead, Paul Kudu BEd as Co-founder & Deputy Lead, Muhammad Gidado Ibrahim MBBS, MWACP as Project Advisor Kaduna,Irene Becker :http://irenebecker.eu/668-2/ as Project Photo-journalist and Tongret L Fwangyil Pharm D as project research fellow. Lead & Deputy Lead are in charge of the overall coordination of the entire project and are primarily responsible for negotiating signing MOUs with blind schools across northern Nigeria to help facilitate training of the SDG ambassadors. The State Project Advisor/Coordinator with support from either the Project or Deputy Lead is responsible for approving,facilitating and supporting all official public engagement by the SDG ambassadors The Project Research Fellow/Data Manager with support from the project lead or deputy Lead is responsible for the project data management, Monitoring & Evaluation as well as research and development The Project photojournalist will be in charge of all media with editorial input from the project Lead or Deputy Lead.
