#SDGAction362
UNDP Actions to accelerate progress towards lagging MDGs
Description/achievement of initiative

Action to accelerate or scale-up progress towards the MDGs at national and sub-national levels underway in 40 countries, with particular attention to lagging Goals, the elimination of major disparities, the role of cross-cutting issues such as HIV/AIDS, and to the poorest countries facing the greatest difficulties in meeting the targets.

Implementation methodologies

UNDP will support the completion of country MDG Acceleration Action Plans using the MDG Acceleration Framework (MAF) and the associated follow-up through:

(i) identifying an initial pool of programme countries and ensuring that technical and financial resources and arrangements are in place for rollout ;
(ii) engaging and reaching agreement with potential programme countries that express interest and evidence of commitment to tackle off-track MDGs at national and/or sub-national levels;
(iii) completing all country level steps to develop Action Plans with particular attention to proposing policies, programmes and budgets that are gender responsive ; and
(iv) providing support on advocacy, technical issues, institutional capacity and coordination for effective follow-up on previously adopted MDG Action Plans.
