Delivering economics education and financial literacy to students in Asia
Description/achievement of initiative

The Global Association of Economics Education (GAEE) is seeking support to extend its advocacy campaign on the proliferation of economics education and financial literacy for students in Asian countries, especially historically marginalized communities. We are an entirely student-led nonprofit organization based in the United States. Our approaches have ranged from subsidizing a network of academic chapters as learning hubs within the schools and communities, organizing free-of-charge academic conferences and training-of-trainers workshops for educators and scholars, connecting members with internship and employment opportunities, providing the translation of world-class learning resources that would otherwise be unaffordable for these students, etc.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The Association is a network of over thirty GAEE-affiliated chapters acting as learning hubs within academic institutions and local communities of more than ten countries. These chapters execute the mission of GAEE in the proliferation of economics education, personal finance, and entrepreneurship incubation for students. Such goals are achieved through free-of-charge lessons, workshops, extracurricular activities within the chapters, as well as opportunities such as essay competitions, case contests, employment and internship, and the provision of free learning materials from our partners that would otherwise be unaffordable and out-of-reach for these students. Cooperating and collaborating with various partners and stakeholders is central to the operation of GAEE. Since its establishment in 2017, GAEE has counted organizations like Financial Times, Google, Microsoft, World Economics Association, AIESEC among our partners and patrons.\r\n\r\nCoordinating various departments of GAEE -- from the CORE Education Team, Membership Development Team to the Office of Recruitment and Partnership -- to work in tandem with the chapter network is done through the Executive Team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Executive Team engenders long-term vision for the Association, establishes partnership with international and local parties, secures financial sources for the Association's operations, ensures standard in chapter recruitment in accordant with the bylaws, and assures compliance with local and international laws. The Team is elected by the Board of Trustees of the Association -- who are experts in the field of education management, law, and civil society -- to serve for a term of 5 years.\r\n\r\nThe Association is governed by the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States of America. As a 501(c)(3) public charity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service of the US Department of the Treasury, GAEE is also committed to transparency in financial disclosure and compliance with US laws. The Association is formally registered in the Corporations Division of Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under the identification number of 001379834. The EIN of the Association is 83-4578590.
