Teens For Climate Action for Peace (Teens4CAP - TBR)
Description/achievement of initiative

The Teens4CAP was developed out of the need for enhancing young adults’ resilience towards extreme climate change. This non-formal education program is offered to teens regardless of their backgrounds. It is based on The Blue Ribbon’s peace education: Peace with own self or Person, People, and Planet or Peace3Ps & Permaculture Ethics Care for People, Care for the Environment and Share Surplus, and principles.

Implementation methodologies

Teens4CAP's first education program on eco-edible urban gardening was birthed in the midst of COVID 19 lockdown. The program came about after The Blue Ribbon Global conceptualized Education for Climate Action for Peace (E4CAP) workshop in December 2020. The latter, however, was designed for adults. Teens4CAP’s flagship programs are (1) Online Workshop ‘Eco-Edible Urban Gardening’ (6 lessons) (2) World Soil Day (3) World Environment Day (4) Teens in Permaculture. The practical is hosted by UCSI Living Lab and TBR's Garden Spring (permaculture site). Its permaculture education component is endorsed by The Blue Mountain Permaculture Institute, Australia. Support on Sustainability Living course came from UCSI SDG Office.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Teens4CAP's participants' capacity development continues to grow as they receive training to train their peers and to produce training materials. The latter are mainly educational videos and PPTs for short workshops. They also get the opportunity to do an internship and Sustainable Living residential programs with TBR's partners. The teens are also involved with eco-edible gardening and Garden to Table projects. Through this, they learned e-commerce, entrepreneurship, managing seed banks, and sharing surplus of crops with those who in need during COVID19 lockdown. TBR's annual award for Teens for World Soil Day catalysts capacity building among teens on care for Mother Nature.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

This program is developed primarily by The Blue Ribbon intergenerational team and its key partners. The delivery of the education and teaching-learning is championed by its teen and young adult members. The participants are mainly 14 to 19 years old teens. This peer training peer non-formal and inclusive education program is run under the mentorship and support from TBR adult members, teachers, and educators of TBR's partners.
