Description/achievement of initiative
The Access to Specialized Patent Information (ASPI) program, administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), provides patent offices and academic and research institutions in developing countries with free or low-cost access to sophisticated tools and services for retrieving and analyzing patent data.ASPI aims to support developing countries in more fully exploiting their innovative potential by leveraging the valuable information contained in patent documents to develop new solutions to technical problems faced at the local and international levels.
Implementation methodologies
ASPI is made possible by a public-private partnership between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and five leading patent database service providers.
Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
WIPO coordinates with participating patent database service providers to carry out activities to promote awareness of the program and effective use of the resources available through it.
