The Young Scot SDGs Call: A Thriving Planet Leaves No One Behind
Description/achievement of initiative

CIFAL Scotland and Young Scot are launching an online call for young people in Scotland to engage with the Sustainable Developing Goals (SDGs). Young Scot is a citizenship and information service for young people between the ages of 16 and 25. As part of the Young Scot scheme, young people can complete activities to gain points. The points can be put towards rewards, which range from experiences to gifts.

Implementation methodologies

Starting on 9th September 2015, a new activity will be uploaded each week based on one of the 17 goals. Activities will include quizzes, infographics, videos or surveys. The points gained from taking these quizzes can be put towards exciting and inspiring rewards, which include meals at local food sourced restaurants, films from the global south, working for a day in a solar panel factory or in award-winning bioremediation water company, shadowing a UN Fellow for a day in Edinburgh, and much more.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Both the activities and rewards are aimed at building capacity, interest, and knowledge by young people in Scotland on the topic of the SDGs. The activities seek to introduce and inform young people about each goal in order to foster knowledge, create awareness, and motivate young people to take part in global development action locally or internationally. The rewards include work experience opportunities in a solar panel factory, a waterway restoration company, nature reserves and shadowing a UN fellow. These rewards aim to interest young people in working in the sustainable development sector and expanding their career options in the green industry. Activities will end with a call to action, linking young people to local and international youth campaigns and organisations where they can apply their knowledge and help to implement the goals.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

The activity content is created by CIFAL under the direction of Young Scot, which has the responsibility for uploading content and overall management of the website. Participation in the activities will be monitored by Young Scot, which will provide bi-weekly updates to CIFAL.
